Tanuki means Raccoon and is considered by the Japanese to bring blessings and an abundance of good fortune.
Commonly seen at the entrances of Japanese homes and next to the cashier at restaurants (or an entire row of them at Shigaraki train station!), Tanuki san is plump and wears a straw hat. His head is slightly tilted and he carries around a bottle of sake with him.
