Although never having sampled little more than a sip of altar wine before coming to the Clare Valley, Brother John would go onto be one of the region's highly regarded winemakers and most loved characters.
As the name suggests, this Reserve Release Shiraz is produced from the best parcels of Sevenhill's most-prized vineyard blocks.
This wine is made in small batches, with the winemaking drawing out its outstanding varietal quality. The Brother John May Reserve Release Shiraz recognises the distinguished career of Sevenhill's Jesuit Winemaker Emeritus, Brother John May SJ, who planted these low-yielding vines in his very early days at Sevenhill. His career at Sevenhill spanned 40 years and this, our most prized Shiraz, is made in his honour.
Deeply intense red berry fruit, combines with a rich and layered palate of cassis and a hint of eucalyptus to produce a more fragrant and slightly herbaceous version of this wine. Cedar-y French oak flavours and lingering fine-grained tannins give this wine nice length and balance.
Product Origin: Clare Valley, South Australia
- The Brother John May is only produced only when the fruit is of exceptional quality and additionally, on low-yielding old vines. Hence, it is not a wine with a yearly vintage.
- Kindly note that Limwood Gourmet reserves the right to move to the sale of the next vintage, which is 2017, when the 2014 sells out.
